A grease trap is a device designed to collect fats, oils, and grease before they enter the sewer system making it an essential peice to restaurant plumbing systems. This interceptor slows down the flow rate of the wastewater allowing it to cool and separate. The water continues to run into the sewer while the grease is trapped in the device. The purpose of a grease trap is to help prevent blockages and backups.
Grease traps are a vital part of any commercial or restaurant plumbing system. At Enduric Plumbing Services Inc. we can provide options for repairing, replacing, or installing grease traps. We also provide drain cleaning services for restaurants to clear blockages that can result from a grease trap being overfilled.
Our highly trained technicians can recommend what type of trap would work best for your restaurant plumbing system while complying with the health department and current NC plumbing code. There are four common types of grease traps in our service area.
An outdoor inground concrete grease trap is a budget option for upfront cost. Over time, the concrete grease trap will need more plumbing maintenance and will eventually have to be replaced. As ground temperature and moisture levels change throughout the seasons the structure of the trap becomes compromised and will be more susceptible to cracking and corrosion.
An outdoor inground HDPE grease trap will take more of an upfront investment but it will save you money on your restaurant plumbing system in the long run. This trap is non degrading, corrosion resistant and has a lifetime warranty.
An indoor inground HDPE grease trap is an excellent solution for many restaurants and commercial kitchens. If space outside is limited, an indoor grease trap can be added in the floor of the kitchen area. This saves floor space as the lids are traffic rated and can be walked on and it can typically handle a larger load than that of an indoor above ground grease trap.
Indoor above ground grease traps are small restaurant plumbing systems that fit underneath a sink. The two common options for this system are galvanized and stainless steel. The stainless steel above ground trap is the long term option. While the galvanized trap is a more affordable option, it is also prone to rusting which causes leaks and therefore necessary plumbing maintenance over time.
It is important to note that having a waste management service to pump your grease trap regularly will help extend the life of your grease trap and save you money on costly restaurant plumbing repairs, delays/closings and fines.
